What personal data we collect and why we collect it

Spam Protection

In order to use the website, the user agrees to the usage of Google reCAPTCHA v3 which sends hardware- and software data to Google in order to analyze it to filter out malicious users (such as spam bots and hackers). The collected data is used for reCAPTCHA and generic security improvements. The data is not used for personalized advertizing by Google.

Comments

When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

Media

If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.

Registration

When a visitor decides to create an account, the user name, optionally real name, email and IP address are stored in order to identify the user and enables the checkout.

The user also agrees to complete a Google reCAPTCHA v2 which sends hardware- and software data to Google in order to analyze it to filter out spam bots registering accounts. The collected data is used for reCAPTCHA and generic security improvements. The data is not used for personalized advertizing by Google.

Payment

Checkout

During the checkout the shipping information is stored which contains name, real life and email address and optionally a phone number. If the user agrees, the email address may be transferred to a packet deliverer for email notifications about the delivery. This service may not be available for every shipment.  When the uses clicks “Buy Now”, he is securely transfered to Paypal to complete the payment, after which the order is placed and production begins.

Cookies

If you first visit the website, you will be asked if you are 18, and if you say yes (which is necessary in order to use the website) you’ll receive a permanent cookie which states you confirmed your age.

If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

If you have an account and you log in to this site, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.

If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie includes no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires after 1 day.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

Analytics

Who we share your data with

If you agree during checkout, your email may be shared with the delivery service to send you notifications, if that service is offered. Your delivery name and address are used for the delivery.

How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

The orders are stored during the period of legal necessity to store receipts.

The personal data of affected users will be deleted or locked if the reason of retaining the data expires. The data might be retained longer, if european or national laws or rulings dictate it. The data will be locked or deleted if the obligatory retainment period expires, except if it is neccessary to retain for the formation or fulfillment of a contract.

What rights you have over your data

If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

You can ask for disclosure of your personal data. In addition under certain circumstances you can demand the correction or deletion of your data.

Additional information

How we protect your data

We protect your data to our best knowledge and conscience. Your data is protected by a TLS 1.2 encryption via https and is stored in our MySql database. The passwords are not stored in plaintext but rather salted and hashed using bcrypt/Argon2.

The data is processed and stored by our webhost bplaced.net, which hosts its servers mostly in Austria and Germany, but always inside the EU.

If a data breach is detected, we will inform users that may be affected.

We dont receive third party data.

What automated decision making and/or profiling we do with user data

When comments contain one or more links they are held for moderator approval. We reserve the right to delete comments and ban users for various offenses such as spam, hateful or offensive speech.
